Property Rights in Virginia’s Wine Country

The coming up of Virginia’s wine country has been one of the happiest developments of the last few decades. Not least because it helps reinforce the anglophilic lifestyle of this PBS-loving metropolis. What could be better than going to spend the weekend in the country? Why, if you’re going to a chateau, that’s what.

Not everyone is so enamored of the trend. Some seem to think that rural areas should stay for the farmers, not self-styled country squires. To that end they’ve passed restrictions on wineries and how they can host events. We’ll see if they kill the goose.
